An oil catch can will increase performance of any engine. The 3.5L v6 found in your Honda vehicle will greatly benefit from the use of a catch can as they are notoriously known for excessive blow-by gas. Here's why they're beneficial to your engine and how a catch can works.

Your engine relieves pressure from the crankcase through a hose that connects the valve cover on the intake manifold. This pressure is commonly referred to to as "blow-by". The ventilation of blow-by gases allow oil and gunky condensation into the intake manifold. This actually leads to more serious issues like contaminated intake air. Contaminated air is when the crank case fumes mix with clean air and lower the fuel's octane. This leads to pre-ignition or pinging. This will cause issues with tuning and overall engine power. Even worse these contaminants will start to build up inside the intake runners and valves. When left unchecked this buildup can hurt fuel economy, horsepower, and can even cause misfires.

Adding a catch-can will prevent oil and other contaminants from causing buildup inside your engine. Essentially the catch can will act as a collection system. Installed into the crank-case ventilation hose to "catch" the contaminants before they can reach the intake manifold. The RIPP catch-can is focused on filtration and baffling. Achieving the best filtration and managing engine blow-by is a process influenced by variables and factors such as engine mileage, driving style, fuel quality, engine oil quality and viscosity, vehicle location and environment, temperature, humidity, and engine temperatures.

To maintain your catch can effectively:
-After installing the catch can, closely observe and document the liquid collected in the can over the initial 500 miles.
-Periodically inspect the catch can to assess the accumulation of contaminants. -Adjust the frequency of inspections based on the variables mentioned above.
-Use the 500-mile measurement as a benchmark to establish service intervals. This proactive approach ensures timely maintenance and sustained catch can effectiveness.

2022 Honda Ridgeline. It really took less than 15 minutes to install. Very easy. The toughest part of the job was getting the plastic engine cover back in place and that’s not that hard. I Like the dipstick to check the level. This is a must have for direct injection. A++ instructions are great, well thought out

2017 Honda Pilot Elite- there is a plug that is in the spot where RIPP says to mount the AOS can. A new hole had to be drilled and the AOS can had to be sandwhiched between the plug and the ABS module.

Included hose fits pretty tight on the can inlet/outlet, but so far has been working great on my 2010 Acura MDX! I’d recommend this mod especially on J37s with their increased oil consumption. I would expect this setup to fit most Honda pilot platforms.

First off the purple of the catch can is exactly what I was hoping for! Looks fantastic! The install was very easy, and the provided instructions, with amazing photos were the perfect assist for a simple installation. I opted for this kit over a universal one because having the custom bracket for a specified mounting location made it so much simpler, rather than having to find or create my own location. It could not have been easier! Once it was all done, I fired up the motor and there were no codes. So simple. Looking forward to cleaner engine performance moving forward. An excellent product, I highly recommend!

The melting bracket that came with the oil catch can needs to be redesigned. The bracket is making the catch can sit too low where it's sitting 1/4 inch above a wiring harness and you are unable to unscrew the oil can to dump it out. The only way you can dump out the oil can is by unmounting it which you should not have to do. The melting bracket needs to be 1.25-1.625 longer or the bracket needs to be redesigned to make the catch can not sit so low.

The barb fittings included for inlet and outlet has rough threads. Also one of the barb fittings had a filter media inside of it. Ive reached out to RIPP for new fittings and clarification if the filter media is needed and what side but i haven’t received a response. I will update my review once i get a response.

Build quality is great and everything you need to install it is there. I only have one complaint. Where it is mounted there is a wiring harness underneath the catch can and it causess me to not be able to unscrew the can when emptying. I had to take the mount for the harness off to unscrew the can. Not a huge deal but I think it was because this can was designed aroung the passport and pilot. I have a 2024 Ridgeline. It does fit but there is a connector right under the can when installed that causes the can to not be unscrewed. If you take the connector off of its mounting bracket you can remove the can to empty it but yeah. A little annoying. That is the reason for 3 starts. besides that it feels high quality.

The install took all of 15 minutes. The instructions provided with the catch can were concise, yet accurate. The quality of the can and the provided fittings and hoses was good. Having used catch cans before on other vehicles, I expect this to help significantly reduce any port and intake valve fouling on my direct-injected Honda 3.5 V6
